Sharjah: An Indian worker was killed at a construction site after being struck by a bag of cement on Sunday.
The victim, identified by the police as R.C.B., 38, was working on a building under construction in the Al Ta'awun area.
The incident took place while several bags of cement were being transported up some stairs. A rope holding a cement bag snapped and the bag fell onto the worker's head, killing him instantly.
The operations room of Sharjah Police said they received a call at 6.40am, notifying them of the death. The police then dispatched a team of Anjad, an ambulance and criminal investigators. The victim's body was transferred to the Kuwaiti Hospital.
A police official said foul play had been ruled out and confirmed that the death was accidental.
In a separate incident later in the day, a man was stabbed while he was sitting alone in his car in the Al Rams area.
The victim, identified by Sharjah Police as M.M., 23, was stabbed in several areas of the body. He was admitted to the Al Qasimi Hospital, and a police investigation is ongoing.
