Abu Dhabi: The latest National Bonds millionaire believes his optimism won him the big prize. "I was sure that one day I will win one million dirhams," said Dr Afrozul Haq, 52, a clinical scientist at Shaikh Khalifa Medical City.
He said the same optimism has brought him several fortunes in life earlier. "Whenever I strongly believed in something and expected it in a positive manner, it had worked in my favour."
Dr Haq said he felt that National Bonds prize draw was done in a transparent manner. "That gave me more optimism and hope," he said. Though he used to regularly watch the draw on TV every month since April 2006, he missed the 21st draw on January 5 this year, which made him a millionaire. "I was busy after my return from India that day," he said. The phone call from National Bonds was thrilling, he said.
Dr Haq said he now feels a sense of security. "Now I am more confident about the future, specially about educating my two sons who are in grades one and three."
Religious beliefs
The millionaire does not fear that the huge amount of money could become a burden. "I have already made plans to properly utilise the whole amount, so it won't be a burden at all." He said he also plans to provide education to poor girls in his home state, Uttar Pradesh, in India.
His latest fortune reminded him the other achievements in life which have come about due to his optimistic approach to life. "I was always determined to study and work at reputed institutions. It has always worked," said Dr Haq who did his Post Doctoral Fellowship at Pasteur Institute in Paris, and PhD in Chemistry from Aligarh Muslim University in India.
He said his religious beliefs also attracted him to National Bonds as it is Sharia compliant. Two other winners - Emiratis Fatima Jumah Al Dahmani and Munira Abdul Rahman Al Dousari - were the winners of the second prize of Dh100,000 each.
National Bonds have now become an essential component of the savings culture, cutting across communities, said Mohammad Qasim Al Ali, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of National Bonds Corporation.
The bonds offers holders annual returns on their capital along with the opportunity to win 26,318 prizes, totalling Dh5 million every month, including a grand prize of Dh1 million.
