Fujairah: His Highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, led the condolences on Tuesday of the man first appointed as Wali by his father Shaikh Mohammad Al Sharqi more than forty years ago.
Hundreds of people came to pay condolences to the family of a popular 'Wali' or community leader at his home in Al Bithna, Fujairah, joined by dignitaries from the neighbouring emirates.
Ali Bin Abdullah Al Himaidi Al Zahmi, was buried last Monday, in his hometown of Al Bithna, just hours after he succumbed to injuries he sustained in a traffic accident on Sunday. Also paying their respect were officials from all federal and local government departments in Fujairah as well as visitors from other emirates.
Al Himaidi's four sons received the well-wishers as they spoke of their personal, and the community's, shared loss. Elder son, Abdullah, told Gulf News his father was a father figure for all the community.
He said: "The attendance of so many people, from near and far, is just a small indication of the place people held my father in." Rashid Ali Al Himaidi also spoke of his father's wisdom and humility which has made him close to all residents of Al Bithna, including expatriates.
He said: "I don't need to talk up the kind of person my father was because everyone knows who he was. Our house was open to the community at all times and my father always had a way with people which made them listen to him."
"He did so many things for the community, brought many conflicting parties together, helped farmers and town's people reach the government's ear and has been there for the young and old when needed."
Al Bithna resident Khalifa Saeed Al Kaabi said: "Al Himaidi was our spokesman; he would take up anything we needed to the concerned authorities. Now people feel there is a void as we lost someone who represented us and our history."
