Dubai: Around 16 inmates from Dubai Central Jail will learn how to repair vehicles as part of the jail's rehabilitation programme.

The department is keen on rehabilitation programmes that will help inmates after they are released from jail.

Major Dr Tariq Al Hashemi, Head of Religious Programmes Section at Dubai Police's Punitive and Correctional Establishments, said this is the first training course in this field for the current year.

He said 16 inmates will take part in the two-month-long training course organised in cooperation with Al Futtaim Training Centre.

Major Dr Al Hashemi said during the programme, inmates will receive theoretical and practical lessons.

The department had earlier found jobs for many Emirati inmates including those as tourist guides.

Other fields in which the department offers training for inmates include, auto mechanics, training in civil defence, first aid, craftwork, carpentry, sewing and painting.
