Nouakchott: The UAE Ministry of Interior and Unicef organised a two-day training workshop on child smuggling and trafficking here, as part of its three-day visit to Mauritania to oversee and ensure the speedy rehabilitation of Mauritanian children who once worked as camel jockeys.
Yahya Ould Sid Al Mustafa, Mauritanian Minister for Justice, inaugurated the workshop for judges and legal aides.
The inaugural session was attended by Brig Nasser Al Awadi Al Minhali, chairman of the special committee for rehabilitation of camel jockeys of the UAE Ministry of Interior, Fatima Bint Khateri, Mauritania's Minister for Women's Promotion, Childhood and Family, Christian Skoog, Unicef representative in Mauritania, and Gassan Khalil, head of the child protection programme at the Unicef office for the Gulf countries.
The workshop included in-depth discussions on the UN convention on the rights of the child.
