Sharjah: More than Dh83 million were raised by Sharjah’s charity drive for Palestinian Children, which ended on Saturday.
The 50 day campaign under the title ‘For the Children’ was launched on April 12 with the aim of relieving the suffering of Palestinian children living under the Israeli occupation.
The charity drive was initiated by Her Highness Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and was directly supervised by Sheikha Jawaher’s office.
According to Unicef’s latest statistics there are more than 2 million children living in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The funds raised from the campaign will be accredited to several charity organisations that are working closely with local organisations in the occupied territories.
Two such charities are the Sharjah Humanitarian Society and the International Baby-Food Action Network (IBFAN) – which work to reduce infant and young child morbidity and mortality across the world, according to organisers.
Moreover, the funds will help with either building clinics or equipping existing ones in areas such as Ramallah and Gaza.
