Ras Al Khaimah: A wedding party was spoiled when the house of a groom in Ras Al Khaimah was gutted by a fire caused by a short electric circuit in the decorative lamps.

Friends and relatives of the groom said the house of the groom was badly damaged.

People suffered from the black smoke which spread to neighbouring areas.

The house of Emirati Saeed Abdullah was fully decorated and prepared for the wedding and a short while after the guests started arriving, a fire broke out, filling the house with black smoke.

The fire was immediately reported to the Civil Defence Department which sent its vehicles to the scene.

A senior officer at the department said the fire was quickly put under control.

He added that the guests in the house were all evacuated, and no casualties were reported.

The groom's relatives and friends said that the groom was bitterly disappointed, but he decided to postpone his wedding to the coming Thursday and to organise it in a similar way.

Police began an investigation to find the reasons for the fire and the technicians who might have caused it.
