Adrian Catedral is the eldest of four siblings. He is a 27-year-old single Filipino working for over a year now as the in-charge of a Jebel Ali free zone company's branch office located on Shaikh Zayed Road.
His parents, working in the department of agriculture in the Philippines, taught him how to manage his expenses wisely, without the aid of a credit card. Catedral said: "They have taught me that do not spend money you haven't earned."
He observed that the true purpose of credit cards is mainly as recourse during emergencies.
"Usually people use credit cards to spend on something beyond their means, which is not right.
"If we want something we should save money for it," he said.
Catedral said that the answer is budgeting. "Let's be smart in spending money. Let's get what we need - not what we want."
