Dubai: Future geospatial trends and technologies that could aid homeland security will be the focus of a three-day conference that will be held for the first time in the region.
The UAE's Ministry of Defence will endorse the region's first geospatial intelligence conference, which will be held in Dubai from April 27 to 29.
Colonel Adel Ahmad Sultan from the Ministry of Defence, said almost all countries in the region are trying to obtain this technology. The conference focuses on getting the maximum advantage from the technology.
The conference has been researched and developed by Defence IQ, a division of International Quality and Productivity Centre (IQPC).
Hugh James, Divisional Director of Defence IQ, IQPC Middle East, said the forum gives military personnel an opportunity to meet key decision-makers and exchange best practice and learning. The conference will straddle the military civilian divide to drive forward regional geospatial development.
There will be exclusive case studies from some of the global leaders in intelligence exploitation. The event tackles interoperability and integration head-on.
James said the last decade has seen a transformation from where geospatial information and intelligence was the domain of the specialist in defence, planning or science to the current position where the general public has ready access to what then may have been considered as highly classified information.
"High-resolution commercial imagery, digital cameras in mobile phones and the ability to create sensor-webs is generally available," he said.
James said it is becoming challenging for governments and agencies to stay in a position of intelligence superiority in such dynamic circumstances where technology developments are in the public domain.
