Dubai: The airport tunnel will close between 1 and 5am from from Saturday until April 14 to permit construction of the Metro.
"Entry and exit points of the airport tunnel from Nadd Al Hammar Road towards Al Qusais will be closed," said Engineer Hussain Al Banna, Director of the Right of Way Services Department at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
He said the tunnel will, however, be open on public holidays, Fridays and Saturdays.
"Motorists are requested to use alternative roads designated by the RTA to avoid traffic congestion and take all precautions during the period of tunnel closure."
Motorists coming from Nadd Al Hammar and the Business Bay Bridge towards the tunnel can take diversions towards Emirates Road to Al Qusais and Sharjah and take the Airport Road to go towards Deira.
He said the tunnel closure was necessary to permit installation of the Dubai Metro viaduct segments. "The closure time will ensure minimum traffic disruption," added Al Banna.
