Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open the first bridge next month from Al Quds Road to Al Ittihad Road, in the direction of Al Garhoud Bridge, a step that would ease traffic congestion.
The bridge is part of the Al Qiyyada Interchange, which is being built as part of the Dh900 million Al Ittihad road improvement project, from Al Garhoud Bridge to the Dubai-Sharjah border.
"The major part of the project from Sho'la Roundabout, passing through the Dubai Police headquarters underpass and the Al Mulla Plaza underpass to the outskirts of Sharjah, will be finished by the end of the year," said Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, Chief Executive Officer of the RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency.
She said the opening of the first bridge will ease traffic flow coming from Al Quds Road towards Al Garhoud Bridge and Bur Dubai on Al Ittihad Road, without impacting the traffic flow in the existing lanes.
The new bridge is one of four new bridges being constructed.
Maitha said the project, which started at the beginning of 2007, aims at easing traffic on the Dubai-Sharjah highway, one of the busiest roads in the country.
"The improvement work will help eliminate bottlenecks during rush hours at certain spots, particularly at the entry and exit points of bridges and underpasses," she said.
