Al Ain: A two-year-old girl was crushed under the tyres of a truck while playing outside her house in Al Ain on Thursday night, Gulf News has learnt.
The police said the two-year-old Pakistani girl N.M.H, was run over while she was playing outside her home in the Al Sarooj district. The driver, M.R.D, also a Pakistani, was reversing the truck at around 10pm.
He did not notice the girl. The girl sustained severe injures and died on the spot. The driver, on realising the situation, fled the scene. The police later moved the girl's body to Al Ain Hospital's morgue.
The investigation unit of Al Ain Traffic Police Department arrested the driver within 24 hours and lodged a case against him. Talking to Gulf News, Hashim Khan, the dead girl's father said it was an horrific time for the family.
"We will carry the scar of the death of our beloved child for the rest of our life," he said.
Khan said he had been making arrangement to transport his daughter's body to his native city in Pakistan.
Accident
In another accident a young Egyptian woman died and her companion sustained serious injuries when their car overturned in the Al Dahera district on the Al Ain-Al Wagan Highway on Friday.
The police said the accident occurred at around 3pm when one of the car's tyres burst. The driver lost control and the car veered off the road and then flipped over.
A police rescue team from the Emergency and Public Safety Section reached the spot and recovered the woman's body. The deceased was reportedly a teacher in a government school.
Meanwhile, a 37-year-old Indian reportedly drank insecticide in an apparent suicide attempt on Friday. The incident occurred at a farm and the police moved the man to Al Ain Hospital. He is in a serious condition.
The police have registered a case and further investigations are ongoing.
