Dubai: The annual Caltex RoadStar Contest, the first of two for this year, brought cheer to 12 Dubai drivers on its first day on Sunday.

They drove off with cash awards of Dh750 each, gifts and a certificate for adhering to basic road rules.

The contest was organised by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF).

The campaign to promote safe driving is more than a decade old. It kicked off yesterday in Dubai and will finish today. It will be held in Abu Dhabi for the first time from May 21 to 22, in association with the traffic police of the respective emirates.

EMSF director of marketing and business development Roshanara Sait patrolled the roads of Dubai with representatives of sponsors Caltex, AXA Insurance and media partners Gulf News, Wheels and Radio2 on Sunday.

The other sponsors are Lexus (Al Futtaim Motors) and the International Automobile Touring Club.

Sunday's winners were Yasidun Rukhan, Mohammad Matin, Tamanna Rajgopal, Kavindra Jangir, Wali Rahman, Abdullah Adkam, Bhargava Pranita, Daniel Mudaliar, Mohammad Eslam, Abdul Kader Al Hayat, Daveedu Thaneti and Almas Rashid.
