Dubai: A bus breakdown on a single lane service road on Shaikh Zayed Road caused a tailback for at least 90 minutes on Tuesday.
A Dubai Bus breakdown on the one lane service road had at least seventy cars stuck in a jam for over 90 minutes, unable to drive around the bus on the narrow road. The traffic jam spilled over into the back roads and smaller link roads connecting the service lane to the back roads. Those who already had their cars parked there were also forced to wait until the traffic jam cleared.
Frustrated motorists could be seen leaving their stationary cars on the road to do their errands at nearby banks, while others were seen getting out to enquire about the delay. One motorist from India said: "If there was another lane or a hard shoulder on this road, none of us would have been stuck for so long." A crane eventually came to tow the bus 90 minutes later, following which traffic cleared.
The service lane provides access to Shaikh Zayed Road and the hotels, restaurants, banks and residential buildings between the Trade Centre Roundabout and Defence Roundabout.
