Dubai: For Carlos Marcelo, a Filipino media coordinator, it is impossible to believe that the girls whom he saw laughing and dancing to blasting music at their coffee shop on Saturday afternoon will never dance again.
The girls were among the five who died in a horrific road accident on Sunday morning on Shaikh Rashid Road.
"Cecile and Ethel looked so happy and danced in gay abandon, little did they know that that will be their last dance together," said Carlos. The other three are Sheril, Michelle and Mohammad Nada, the driver.
The coffee shop in the Spectrum building in which the Ritazza coffee shop is located wore a deserted look on Sunday. Friends lit candles and stood in a silent prayer.
"Never have I seen Cecile or Ethel or for that matter any of the coffee shop attendants looking glum. I will miss the morning greetings and happy faces when they waved at me when I passed by," said Carlos.
"They had the finest smile that made your day," said Carla Mattar a senior broker. "They knew everyone of us by our names. I heard about the accident on the radio on my way to work. But it was only after I reached the building that the five dead were those who served us with piping hot coffee every morning."
Ramon, a corporate manager who worked in the same building, said: "I just don't know what to say. It is most tragic. The girls at the coffee shop were very lively and cheerful. Its unbelievable that they are no more."
Samer who is also one of the many clients of the coffee shop said that Sheril one of the Indian who died in the accident was the best.
"I have joined one of the offices located in the building just a couple of months back, but the manner in which interacted with each one of us was so warm and friendly."
