Dubai: The Dubai Taxi Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) honoured 10 taxi drivers and 10 employees who took part in the "Clean up UAE" campaign, organised by the Emirates Environmental Group in December 2008, in association with several related official agencies.

Abdul Aziz Malek, chief executive of the RTA Taxi Agency, said the RTA was eager to take part in all initiatives aimed at promoting voluntary activities among drivers and employees. He added that it reflected their commitment towards various categories of the community.

"This marks the first ever participation by the Agency in the 'Clean up UAE' campaign, through which we aim to raise environmental awareness among the drivers and employees. It will boost public health standards and the tourist profile of the UAE in general and the emirate of Dubai in particular, noting that cab drivers are in continuous contact with the environment, tourist destinations and commercial spots in the emirate," Abdul Aziz said.

He said that honouring these employees reflected the keen attention of the Dubai Taxi Agency to recognise the assiduous efforts of its drivers and employees to deliver a perfect service to the clients. Al Malek said such contributions merit recognition as they set an example of self-motivated commitment to go the extra mile and upgrade performance, while realising tangible results without angling for rewards, regardless of the scope or nature of the job.

Distinguished effort

During the ceremony, three cab drivers from the Dubai Taxi Agency were honoured for their distinguished performance in customer service, based on the findings of a field campaign, known as "Mystery Rider".

The campaign was launched in association with the Public Transport Agency and ended on December 30, 2008.

Meanwhile, the Licensing Agency also hosted a ceremony to honour its driving examiners posted at the Drivers' Licensing Department at etisalat Academy Building. Director of the department, Ali Al Jasem, said the agency honoured 9 of the 120 examiners.

"The ceremony shed light on several key aspects, such as the new testing regime to be introduced by the department and stressed on the importance of knowledge of the law.

"Copies of driving and traffic laws were also distributed and the discussions covered further topics such as evaluating, qualifying and increasing the number of examiners as well as the timing of employees' attendance and discharge," Al Jasem said.

He lauded the achievements of those who were honoured for tirelessly bringing success to the testing operations carried out by the agency.

"Their role contributes to the efforts of the agency to maintain highly competent driving levels, which in turn contribute towards realising the vision of the RTA in providing safe and smooth transport for all."
