Riyadh: Anybody with an audio recording of Al Qaida deputy Ayman Al Zawahiri on their cell phone faces arrest if they don’t inform authorities, Saudi officials said.

Over 50 men detained since December on suspicion of trying to revive Al Qaida cells were planning to use a recording of Zawahiri to raise funds, according to Interior Ministry officials.

Citizens will have until next Saturday to comply with authorities.

Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest sites, has been battling an Al Qaida resurgence in recent years.

Egyptian-born Zawahri is thought to be in hiding in the mountainous border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
