Sana'a: A Yemeni security official yesterday accused Al Houthi rebels of receiving support from an Islamic country.
"We are very sure that there are ... hawzas [illegal funds] from some brotherly countries that support Al Houthis," said Yahya Mohammad Abdullah Saleh, head of the country's central security, in an obvious reference to Iran.
The official said Al Houthi rebels have resources like the state resources.
"Al Houthi [rebels] were not able to give us a single logical explanation about where they get the finances from, the finances they spend for destroying the nation, such finances can be only spent by states, or [Al Houthis] have been making business in drugs for example," he said in statements published by the ruling party website.
The official also accused Al Houthi rebels of thwarting the Qatari mediation to end the four-year rebellion in Sa'ada.
"Al Houthi [rebels] have an undeclared goal, and they cannot declare it ... this was the main reason behind the failure of the Qatari mediation," Yahya Saleh said.
