Sana'a: The Yemeni government on Monday sought the help of International Police (Interpol) in bringing back an antique bronze statue smuggled out of the country, a newspaper reported.
The general manager for Yemen's antiquities authority told the Yemen Times that the statue was taken by "professional smugglers".
Hesham Al Thowr said the artefact was "unique and extremely rare, as nothing like it has been found in Yemen before."
The statue is of a female dancer leaning on a rectangular base and dates back to 3 B.C.
Al Thowr said they were hoping to study the statue further to find "many missing links about ancient Yemeni history."
