Sana'a: Yemen has handed over eight Saudi citizens wanted on terror charges to the security authorities of Saudi Arabia, a Yemeni security official said  on Thursday.

The eight men were arrested in the Yemeni territories, and were extradited to the Saudi authorities over the last two days; the state-run newspaper on September 26 quoted an unidentified security official as saying.

The extradition of the men came in the framework of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in accordance with security agreements on extradition of criminals.

Earlier in the week, Saudi Arabia press reports said that Yemen forms a haven for Saudi members of Al Qaida who receive support from Iran and Libya.

Support

Nayef Mohammad Al Qah'tani, the leader of what is called the "Al Qaida organisation in the south Arabian Peninsula," has been in Yemen for about two years, and he has been receiving financial support from Iranian and Libyan persons to carry out terrorist acts against Yemen and Saudi Arabia, said Saudi reports on Wednesday.

After killing five Al Qaida operatives and injuring and arresting two others in an operation against a cell's hideout in Tareem on August 11, the Yemeni government said that the same cell was planning to strike vital targets in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
