Dubai: Two lucky women won cars as part of Dubai Police’s White Points system in a draw on Wednesday.
Motorists who have not committed any traffic violations for an entire year and collect 24 so-called ‘white points’ have been rewarded every year by the police since 2013.
In the fourth year of this incentive, this year the white points will reward 1,800 safe motorists, an increase from 1,500 last year, said Maj Gen Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Assistant to the Police Chief for Operations Affairs and Head of the Federal Traffic Council (FTC).
Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum drew the names of the two winners during a ceremony honouring sponsors and partners on Wednesday.
This year, two cars were given as part of the rewards, which also include gift vouchers and other gifts.
One car was contributed by Hill advertising while the other car was given by Al Habtoor Motors.
Fatima Darwish and Khawla Waleed Ali Al Razouqi, both from the UAE, were the lucky winners.
Of the total number of winners, 1,090 were men and 710 women.
The top five nationalities among the 1,800 who will be awarded over the next month are Emiratis (400), Indians (332), Egyptians (147), Pakistanis (98) and British (96).
Maj Gen Al Zafein said these are the people who will win additional gifts, but everyone who falls under the white points criteria will gain 24 white points that they can exchange for minor violations. A total of 12,071 drivers aged 18-21 have Dubai driving licences. Of these 5,085 have received white points, of whom 1,039 were Emiratis, 943 were Arabs and 3,103 were non-Arabs,” he said.
How to qualify
Motorists who have valid driving licences issued from Dubai with the registration licence of the vehicle owned by the same driver can qualify for the white points system.
Each eligible person can receive a total of 24 white points a year, two for each month. The points will be calculated at the end of each year. A motorist loses his or her entitlement to the month’s points on being involved in any kind of traffic violation during that month regardless of whether the vehicle was driven by the owner or not.
A motorist can also lose his or her accumulated white points on being involved in a huge traffic violation in the same year.
