Dubai: How happy are you at work?

Whether it be down to having reasonable working hours or a good relationship with co-workers, research has revealed that employees in the region do enjoy going to work.

In a recent survey carried out by Bayt.com, 86.7 per cent of employees in the region said they are satisfied with how enjoyable it is to go to work every morning. The study also showed that 70.2 per cent of respondents were satisfied with their work-life balance, while 44.1 per cent of respondents claimed to be completely satisfied with the type of work they do.

The survey also revealed that up to 63.6 per cent of professionals were generally satisfied with their jobs.

The study was carried out under the ‘Workplace Satisfaction in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena)’ poll, where over 10,500 people participated from the Mena region, including the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. Data was collected online from January 30, 2016 to March 17, 2016.

More than half of the participants, at 52.9 per cent, were completely satisfied with their chances of a promotion, and around three-quarters of respondents (74.7 per cent) were satisfied with their working hours.

In a statement, Suhail Masri, vice-president of employer solutions at Bayt.com, said: “It is pleasing to see that the majority of respondents to our poll are satisfied with their current jobs, providing an overall positive outlook with workplace satisfaction in the Mena region.”

“Employee satisfaction is an important factor in boosting the reputation and performance of an organisation.”

However, money did not seem to play an important factor in the level of employee’s happiness. According to the study, only 52.4 per cent of professionals were satisfied with their current salaries, indicating that employees were more satisfied with the health insurance provided by their company (72.3 per cent), career growth (68.2 per cent), physical safety conditions at work (76 per cent) and the learning opportunities at the workplace (75.8 per cent).
