Sharjah: Sharjah Police have announced plans to install new vitronic (Al Burj) radars that will target speeding motorists and those who tailgate, Gulf News has learnt.
The new radar can catch different traffic violations at the same time, including speeding, vehicles travelling below the minimum speed limit, not leaving enough distance between vehicles, heavy vehicles not abiding by designated lanes, heavy vehicles outside designated timings and vehicles driving on the hard shoulder.
The new radar has the ability to watch traffic from two sides and monitor six lanes and catch more than one violation at the same time, an official said. It also has the ability to read vehicle number plates as well as catch drivers who speed between cameras.
The radar is fitted with 3G technology that instantly sends violations to the traffic department.
The official said the police are always looking for the latest technology. “We visit international exhibitions and look at technology used in the most advanced countries.”
The location of the new radars will be decided after studying accident reports. Currently, the police have installed this radar on Maliha Road to reduce accidents.
Benefits at a glance:
