The setting up of evening courts in Abu Dhabi to speed legal procedures is a welcome step as it would help resolve one of the main issues faced by the judicial system across various emirates.

The overcrowding of court schedules is a problem that has been identified by officials for some time, and the recent step should assist in alleviating the pressure faced by the courts.

"The evening courts will be launched gradually in accordance with a timeframe in a number of areas, especially remote districts, to ease the burden of the courts downward and spare litigants and judicial officials from inconvenience," said Sultan Saeed Al Badi, undersecretary of the Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi.

This initiative is positive and could also be followed by other emirates, as ensuring the efficiency of a judicial system would enable them to bring about justice in a speedy and professional manner.
