As over 1.5 billion Muslims mark the beginning of Ramadan, it is once again an opportunity to renew one's commitment to the true principles of Islam. Ramadan is not limited to being the month of fasting and long nightly prayers. It is also not confined by the post-sunset activities or the excessive indulgences of some. Instead, the month is mainly about a community coming together to strengthen its ties of goodwill, sharing, and caring about each other.
It is during this month that many charity activities take place for one of the true aspects of Ramadan is for all members of a particular community to give and share. The increase in charity activities in this particular month in fact comes as a reminder of the importance of solidarity between all members of any given society. Ramadan is also a time for others to understand the true teachings of the religion.
