Fifa's decision to grant the UAE the right to host the World Club Championships in 2009-2010 could not have come at a more opportune moment. It is a timely present to the country's sporting and footballing fraternity, which, in a historic decision turned fully professional from this season.
Football in the UAE has turned the corner, in a manner of speaking, and next season's competitions will bear evidence to that - especially the structured manner in which the league will be conducted.
The World Club Cup on the other hand will also provide the UAE's football fans with a ringside view of the best that is on offer in the game.
League champions from each continent will showcase their skills in Abu Dhabi and, by virtue of being the hosts the UAE national team will also get an opportunity to match skills with them. This augurs well for sport in the country.
