There's a certain irony in the fact that a privately owned investment group, called the Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG), has taken over the storied franchise of Manchester City.
Fans of the Old Trafford Premier League side are probably smiling to themselves, knowing that 'United' finally owns their Maine Road rivals. (But football purists would also know that the Red Devils have always owned their cross-city rivals on the field!)
While no official figures for the purchase of Manchester City have been released, the price is believed to be in the Dh650 million range.
Having an ownership with deep pockets is essential to success in the best league in football around the world. With the ADUG purchase, Manchester City should, at last, have the resources available to match its bitter city rivals. It's a good day for football, for Manchester City and for fans.
Except, if you're a Manchester United supporter!
