Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, on the first day of his three-day visit to Britain, took the opportunity to rebuke the West for "criticisms and insinuations" against his country. Speaking at the Royal United Services Institute in London - a British think-tank - Musharraf firmly called for support and encouragement of what his government was doing in fighting the Taliban and Al Qaida.

Musharraf warned that any success by militants in his country - and by implication, Afghanistan as well - would have severe repercussions in Europe and further afield. His warning is timely, as there have been a number of critics, both political and military, who have been too ready to not only undermine the difficult and hard work of the Pakistan army, but also those allies stationed in Afghanistan, who are trying to thwart the militants from the other side of the border.

While no one said victory would be easy, it is made more difficult when allies undermine any efforts.
