Eric Arthur Blair, under his nom de plume George Orwell, wrote in his book Nineteen Eighty-Four the popular phrase "Big Brother is Watching You". It was, of course, couched as a warning to the possibility of the prospect of complete state control coming into being.

Now, however, according to scientists, big brother may very well be able to watch you, along with every other member of the family. Because computer companies are working on a device that will allow family or friends to see where you are at any given time.

The device, whose working title is the appallingly named Whereabouts Clock, would seem to promise users no privacy at all. All that arises now is, what sort of person would want to be tracked - or is it hounded? - 24 hours a day?
