A trawl through the internet will show just how buzzwords have entered the English language. Using jargon to impress people is not new. What is new is how widespread it has become, especially in commerce and government.
The UK Local Government Association has banned over 100 words because they are buzzwords - meaningless or incomprehensible; gobbledegook.
Language the layperson cannot understand, thereby creating a barrier between the writer and the reader. Tax forms used to be riddled with buzzwords, such that it made it almost impossible to complete a form accurately.
This gave the opportunity for tax officials to take legal action against people giving false information. Fortunately that was yesterday, things have changed due to the persistence of campaigners for plain, simple English.
