Cairo: Egypt’s foreign minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit has said a minor cabinet minister – and not the president – will represent Egypt at this weekend’s Arab League summit in Damascus.
Abou Gheit said Mufid Shihab, the minister of state for Legal Affairs and Legislative Councils will lead the Egyptian delegation, which begins Friday.
The announcement comes as Saudi Arabia said it would be sending it’s Arab League ambassador to the summit. Lebanon has said it was boycotting the meeting altogether.
