Cairo: For opposition, the Egyptian authorities have done little to help the people of the Gaza Strip suffering under an inexorable Israeli blockade for more than one year now.
For Egyptian government, the opposition is so weak that it takes advantage of any chance to raise its street profile.
"This is not true," said Moustafa Abdel Jelil, the coordinator of the protest group Kefaya (Enough).
"Like all other Egyptians, we feel sympathetic towards our Palestinian brethren in Gaza and are at pains to help them end the merciless Israeli siege," Abdul Jelil told Gulf News after Egyptian police blocked on Monday a convoy planned by opposition groups to deliver relief supplies to Gaza.
The convoy was the second to be prevented by the Egyptian authorities to reach Gaza in less than a month. Monday marked Egypt's celebration of the 35th anniversary of its war against Israel.
