Tehran: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that Western threats and pressure had failed to stop the country's nuclear programme, which the United States and others suspect is aimed at making bombs.
"I tell Bush ... that your era has ended and thank God you will not be able to damage even one centimetre of the holy land of Iran," Ahmadinejad said in a televised speech in the city of Shahr-e Kord.
"With God's help today we have gained victory and the enemies cannot do a damned thing," Ahmadinejad said in a speech broadcast live on state television.
"If the enemy thought they could break the Iranian nation with pressure they are wrong. The Iranian nation... will wipe the smile off its face."
His comments came a day after the United States and the European Union told the Islamic Republic they were ready to impose more sanctions over its nuclear activities, which Tehran says are solely aimed at generating electricity.
