Tehran: The Pentagon and a senior Iranian official denied on Tuesday an Iranian news report that a US military aircraft had violated Iranian territory and had been forced to land in Iran.

"All aircraft in the region are accounted for and we have no reports of any aircraft landing in Iran," Lt. Col. Patrick Ryder told reporters.

The Iranian official said both the aircraft and the people on board were Hungarian.

An Iranian news agency had said earlier on Tuesday that a US military aircraft had violated Iranian territory unintentionally and had been forced to land in Iran.

The semi-official Fars News Agency did not say when the incident happened.

It said five senior US military officials had been interrogated at an Iranian airport and released a day later after it became clear the US plane had not entered intentionally.

"I haven't heard anything like that," said Pentagon Bryan Whitman.
