Baghdad: The abduction of two CBS Journalists in the southern city if Basra was condemned by radical Shitte Minister on Tuesday, as the Iraqi police said an intensive search for the men is in progress.

On Sunday morning, the kidnapping of a British reporter and his Iraqi interpreter took place in Sultan Palace hotel as about eight masked gunmen barged in, using machine guns, said Iraqi police and witnesses.

Two CBS journalists were no where to be found in Basra, said CBS News on Monday, and refused to identify them.

"We condemn the kidnappings of journalists, and we demand the release of the British journalist and the Iraqi interpreter," said Harith Al Edhari, a director of Al Sadr's office in Basra. "Our office condemns such events and we call on security forces to help in their release."

All efforts were in progress to locate the journalists, said CBS and requested "that others do not speculate on” until the availability of further information.
