Baghdad: Iraq's prime minister met with the Sunni vice president on Sunday to discuss reintegrating Sunni political parties into the Shiite-led government.

Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki met Tariq Al Hashemi a day after the Sunni leader described his political party’s return to Cabinet a priority.

A statement from the government office said the two leaders discussed "the future of the political process and the rebuilding of a national and unified government."

Al Hashemi on Saturday said the government needs to reconcile quickly to "save Iraq,” comments which signal the Sunni National Accordance Front’s eagerness to rejoin the government after a nine month hiatus.

The group quit the government in protest over what they described as its anti-Sunni bias.
