Baghdad: Iraqi officials say six teenage boys purportedly being trained as suicide bombers have been detained in the northern city of Mosul.
Interior Ministry spokesman Major General Abdul-Karim Khalaf says the boys are between the ages of 14 and 16. He says initial investigations show they were being trained by a Saudi militant who has been killed.
An Iraqi army officer says the soldiers were acting on tips when they found the boys in a house. He says the boys confessed to being prepared to carry out suicide attacks but the targets had not yet been revealed. The officer spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorised to release the details.
The officials announced the arrests Monday but it wasn't immediately clear when they occurred.
