Damascus: Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa has urged the Lebanese to take part in an Arab summit in Damascus this weekend.
"I hope that Lebanon will not be absent from the summit," Moussa said after arriving in the Syrian capital on Monday. The summit is set to focus on Lebanon's political crisis.
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora is not expected to attend the summit. It is not clear whether a delegation will be appointed.
Some Arab leaders have vowed not to attend if the Lebanese parliament has not elected a president by then. Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah will also not be attending.
On Monday, Lebanon's parliamentary speaker announced that a session to elect a new president had been postponed from Tuesday until April 22.
