Jerusalem: Israel has beefed up security at embassies and diplomatic missions abroad as the mourning period of slain Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyeh comes to an end.
Mughniyeh was killed in a car bomb attack in Damascus in early February; both Hezbollah and Iran blame Israel for the attack. He is accused by Israel of masterminding a series of deadly attacks against US and Israeli targets.
Speaking at Mughniyeh’s funeral, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed to attack Israeli targets.
Israeli security forces have been instructed to be especially vigilant against possible attacks by Hezbollah cells in Palestinian territories, officials said. Israel says Hezbollah is already suspected of involvement in a deadly attack on a Jerusalem religious seminary earlier this month.
