Nablus: A dozen Islamic militants who agreed to spend time in jail to get off Israel's wanted list have escaped from a Palestinian prison in the West Bank.
The 12 members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades said they escaped the Jneid jail on Friday because guards beat them with clubs after a fight among detainees.
The escapees were among dozens of gunmen who turned themselves in to Palestinian police in January, said the group's leader, Mahdi Abu Ghazaleh. "We won't return," he said.
Israel did not immediately comment on the breakout. Palestinian police would not discuss the escape.
