Dakar: Hamas and Fatah delegates have met the Senegalese president in talks aimed at finding common ground on a deal with Israel, according to media reports on Saturday.
Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade had said that Israeli President Shimon Peres asked him to intervene in the Middle East peace talks.
Senegal's Le Soleil newspaper quoted Wade's spokesman Al Hadj Amadou Sall as saying that first phase of the talks is an "inter-Palestinian phase."
The initial talks aim to get a consensus on "a common position leading to peace with Israel," Senegalese state news agency APS quoted Sall as saying.
"At the moment he is talking in turn with delegates from Fatah and Hamas. The proper negotiations will take place in seven stages," Sall was quoted as saying.
Sall was unavailable for immediate comment on Saturday and a Hamas spokesman in Gaza could not confirm the meeting.
