Rabat: Three Moroccan men have received jail terms of between two and four years for involvement in a fire at a Casablanca mattress factory that killed 55 people, official media reported on Thursday.

Morocco’s official Map news agency said the factory owner got four years for manslaughter and criminal negligence and the worker whose discarded cigarette caused the April 26 blaze was also jailed for four years for involuntarily starting the fire.

The factory manager, who is also the owner's son, was convicted for two years for negligence.

Each man also faced a 1,000 dirham fine, Map said.

The blaze at the Rosamor Ameublements factory engulfed the four-storey building because it was storing highly flammable chemicals, according to officials.
