Nairobi: A French yacht hijacked by Somali pirates is being taken to a remote coastal village, a maritime official said on Thursday.
The yacht, which has two French nationals on board, was seized late on Tuesday in the Gulf of Aden.
Andrew Mwangura of the East African Seafarers' Assistance Programme said the yacht was heading for Eyl, a lawless former fishing outpost that hosts several gangs that are holding other ships for ransom.
The French Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said the two French citizens were the only passengers on the vessel, adding that a UN Security Council resolution in June gave France the right to pursue the pirates into Somali waters.
They were considering the best way to pursue the hostages, the Ministry said.
