Khartoum: Eight Darfur rebels facing death penalties for terrorists attacks on Khartoum have appealed against their convictions, a lawyer said on Tuesday.

"We have made one appeal for the eight people from the Khartoum court," Defence Lawyer Muez Hadra said. "The rest we will appeal in the coming two days," he added.

Hadra also said they had petitioned Sudan’s highest Constitutional Court to stay the execution orders on the basis that the special courts formed to try them were not in accordance to Sudanese laws.

Last week, three special courts sentenced 30 accused rebels to death by hanging for an attack on Khartoum that killed more than 200 people and injured hundreds others in may.

Hadra said there is no evidence in the case against the eight rebels
