Dubai: Al Nasr qualified for the quarterfinals of the 23rd Arab Clubs Basketball Championships in Amman in Jordan despite losing their third match in Group A to Al Telal of Yemen.

Al Nasr's 100-78 win in their first match in Group A against Qatar Club helped them qualify on scoring points difference for the next round of the competition. The team had lost to Zain of Jordan 94-78 and again on Sunday to Al Telal of Yemen 98-97.

Zain, who are favourites to clinch the title, topped Group A with six points after defeating the other three teams. They beat Al Telal of Yemen 101-48, UAE Al Nasr 94-78 and Qatar Club 108-75.

Points difference

The three teams in Group A, Al Nasr, Qatar and Al Telal recorded four points each, however scoring points differences gave Al Nasr second place with plus five. Qatar Club had minus 34 and Al Telal had minus 63.

Al Nasser of Libya and Mas Maghrib club of Morocco qualified from Group B to the quarterfinals.

Defending champions Al Riyadhy of Lebanon and Arthodex of Jordan qualified from Group C.

Al Hikma of Lebanon and Kuwait Club qualified from Group D to the quarters.

Games in the quarterfinals will be played in a knock-out format.

Al Nasr will have to double the effort they showed against the Yemeni club if they want to reach the semifinals.
