Dubai: Al Wasl meet Zain of Jordan today in the quarterfinals of the Asian Clubs' Basketball Championship in Kuwait after they topped Group B in the first round.

Al Wasl are hopeful about beating the Jordanian club and reaching the semifinals, to be held tomorrow to compete for the title and qualify for Friday's final.

The UAE league champions showed a fine form in the four games they played in Group B and won all. They beat defending champions Saba Battery of Iran 116-110 in the first match. They won the second match against Indian club ONGC 102-72.

They beat Muharraq of Bahrain in the third match 116-88 and in their last match in Group B, they defeated Al Qadsia of Kuwait by a narrow 83-82 margin to top the group with eight points. Zain of Jordan are fourth in Group A.

Maiden title

Al Wasl are eager to clinch the Asian title for the first time in the club's history after they failed in the GCC clubs' tournament held in Qatar last month when they had finished fourth.

In other quarterfinal matches today, Al Riyadhy of Lebanon meet Al Qadsia of Kuwait, Al Rayan of Qatar clash with Al Muharraq of Bahrain, while defending champions Saba Battery of Iran meet Almaty of Kazakhistan.

The semifinals will be held tomorrow.
