Las Vegas: Filipino Manny Pacquiao beat Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas to take the WBC super feather weight title.
The rematch victory, which was a narrow split decision, was four years in the making for Pacquiao.
Two of the judges saw it 115-112, 114-113 for Pacquiao, while the third scored 115-112 for Marquez.
Marquez landed more punches at a higher percentage, but Pacquiao knocked down Marquez in the third round and persevered through a nasty cut. Marquez also was cut, but neither backed down from one scintillating exchange after another. The fighters also clashed heads in Round 7.
Aside from being crowned as WBC super featherweight champ, Pacquiao will be awarded with the Ring Magazine super featherweight belt.
An immediate rematch was scuttled by financial arguments, and Pacquiao went on to cement his spot at the top of the sport and in every Filipino's heart, while Marquez made a long climb back to a match he eagerly accepted this time.
