Dubai: Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has proved it once again - he is the champion. Pacman from the Philippines snatched the World Boxing Council lightweight title from David Diaz of Chicago in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Elie Semine, a Filipino based in Dubai, said: "Pacquiao made Diaz into a punching bag. Diaz is too slow and could not cope with Pacquiao's speed. Although Diaz has the power, Pacquiao's punches are accurate, which made Diaz an easy target."

Pacquiao has won flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight titles to date, to which he has now added the lightweight - a four-weight division that is very hard to attain for a boxer.

Bringing honour

"He brought honour to the Philippines. I'm very proud of him! He's truly the number one pound-for-pound boxer today," Semine said.

Gerrymar Santos, a Gulf News reader from Sharjah agreed, saying, "It was a one-sided fight in favour of Pacquiao right to the point of the killer left hook to Diaz's jaw and his knock out in the ninth round."

Santos said that he was confident his favourite would win the match. "I did not worry a bit as Pacquiao was in good form, unlike his earlier fight against Marquez, where my heart was beating fast."

He added that Diaz, an excellent boxer himself, was however, "no match against the powerful Pacquiao".

Jobannie Tabada, working in Dubai, agreed. He said: "I believe Pacquiao was in his best fighting shape in years because he didn't have to burn himself out to lose weight, as he did when he was fighting at 130 pounds."

All agreed that it was a match that could be easily classified as one of the "greats" in the sport's history.

"Watching the fight between two great world champions was a great opportunity.

"Witnessing the total dominance of Manny Pacquaio over the lightweight champion was sensational," added Doyle Mijares, based in Dubai.

"It was a one-sided fight in favour of Pacquiao right to the point of the killer left hook to Diaz's jaw and his knock out in the ninth round."
