Abu Dhabi: It was vintage cricket with large doses of silken skills as the veteran cricketers of the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council (ADCC) went down by three wickets to the UAE Sports Scribes in a festival match at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Saturday night.

Gopal Jasapara was the man of the match but there were quite a few heroes of the night.

The ADCC President Dilawar Mani displayed patience and batting skills that prolonged his side's innings while and his deputy Wajahat Hussein and former President Omer Yousef were involved in a breezy stand.

Mohammad Sadiq emerged as the top scorer with 29 runs the same number of runs that the Scribes yielded in the form of extras while Qaisar Butt defied his weight to slam three classy boundaries.

Apart from Jasapara's four wicket haul, Monish picked up two but it was Andrew Schuler who caught the eye with two brilliant catches, the first a stunner to dismiss opener Khalid Mehmood for a third-ball duck.

Chasing 150 for a win, the Scribes were pegged back when Iqbal Shah scalped two wickets. At 34 for 3 and star batsman Tariq Javed dismissed for a duck, ADCC sniffed an easy win and it was here that they were in for a surprise.

Jasapara and Amit Passela starred in a 74-run stand before the latter fell to a tired-looking shot. ADCC again piled the pressure as Sajjad Ahmad and Mohiuddin picked up two wickets each but Andrew stood firm to see the Scribes through.

The Scribes skipper Robin Chatterjee received the winner's trophy from Dilawar Mani while the Evening Post awards went to Andrew Schuler and Mohammad Sadiq.
