Sharjah: Namibia posted a challenging target of 337 runs despite a brilliant six-wicket spell from UAE left-arm spinner Khurram Khan on the third day of the four-day International Cricket Council (ICC) Intercontinental Cup at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
UAE were 44 for 2 in their second innings, needing 293 runs to win with eight wickets in hand.
Namibia swelled their overnight score of 164 for 3 to 396 runs in their second innings. Opener D. Botha cracked a patient 104 off 223 balls. Almost all their batsmen contributed with B.Kotze hitting 66 while K. Burger cracked 76. T. Verwey chipped in with 43.
Arshad Ali took the wickets of Du Randt and K. Burger but it was Khurram Khan who checked Namibia's run flow.
"It was a tough wicket to bowl as it was assisting the batsmen. I am delighted with my first five-wicket spell in first class cricket," remarked Khan to Gulf News after taking 6 wickets for 98 from 42 overs.
UAE got off to a bad start in the second innings losing their prolific run getter Arshad Ali for 1. L. Klazinka trapped Ali leg before and went on to dismiss opener M. Iqbal for 7.
Night-watchman Owais Hameed withstood the tight Namibia bowling to provide excellent support to Gayan Silva.
They put on 28 runs for the third wicket with Silva playing some beautiful square drives and flicks to remain unconquered on 20.
